High resolution spectroscopy of Seyfert warm absorbers with XMM-Newton
Abstract
We present results from the analysis of an XMM-Newton observation of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7469, focussing particularly on high resolution spectroscopy of the warm absorber using the Reflection Grating Spectrometer. We make comparisons between this warm absorber and the much deeper one observed in NGC 3783. NGC 7469 has a prominent soft excess, which there is no evidence for in NGC 3783. Both warm absorbers have multiple ionisation phases, with NGC 3783 showing a much wider range of ionisation parameters. The outflow velocities of the absorbers also differ. We discuss the evidence for different nuclear and environmental conditions in the two galaxies.
